Indications for Ferric Ammonium Citrate, Folic Acid & Vitamin B12 Syrup:

Dosage And Administration:

• Adults: One tablespoon (5ml) twice or thrice a day after meal
• Children: Therapeutic: 3-6 mg/kg/day of elemental iron in divided doses(3-4 times a day)
• Maintenance Dose: 0.5-1 mg/kg/day of elemental iron or as directed by the physician.

Precautions For Ferric Ammonium Citrate, Folic Acid & Vitamin B12 Syrup:

Neonates- Indofer syrup should be used only if clearly needed.

Pregnancy- Indofer syrup given as prophylaxis for iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women is safe.

Nursing mothers- Indofer syrup at therapeutic doses given to lactating mothers appears to be safe for breast fed infants.

Drug Interactions:

Iron preparation interact with diphosphanates, antacids & tetracyclines. Concurrent use of phenytoin and folic acid may result in decreased phenytoin effectiveness. Biguanides aspirin, potassium supplements, cholestyramine, colchicines, neomycin and anti-convulsant drugs have been found to impair cobalamin absorption.
